El consejo telefónico aplicado al tratamiento de fumadores

Dos décadas de investigación sugieren que las estrategias de intervención de autoayuda para dejar de fumar pueden ser el medio preferido por los fumadores para dejar de fumar. Sin embargo, revisiones previas han concluido que hay una evidencia limitada de que las intervenciones de autoayuda tengan un efecto significativo para mejorar el abandono de los cigarrillos. Los complementos personalizados, especialmente el consejo telefónico, podría incrementar su efectividad. El objetivo de esta revisión es analizar si el consejo telefónico, en sus modalidades proactiva y reactiva, contribuye a incrementar la eficacia de las intervenciones de autoayuda para dejar de fumar, cuando se utiliza como un complemento de las mismas. Se incluyen sólo aquellas investigaciones con intervenciones para dejar de fumar en las que se han utilizado ensayos controlados aleatorizados, en donde al menos en uno de los grupos en el estudio utilizó consejo telefónico como complemento de un programa de autoayuda, y el seguimiento que se realizó después de finalizar el tratamiento, es de 6 meses o mayor. El consejo telefónico incrementa las tasas de abstinencia en los programas de autoayuda para dejar de fumar, especialmente mediante las llamadas realizadas por un consejero (modalidad proactiva).
