What can a speciality Addiction journal be expected to achieve?

There are currently a total of 75 specialist addiction journals published in the world. A core question arises: what do we expect these journals to achieve? This brief editorial puts forward for debate a number of answers to that question and argues that the responsibility of journals goes beyond the mere passive receipt of submitted material. Journals have responsibilities not only in enhancing scientific quality, but also on ethical questions and in the exploration of the science and policy connection.References
