Diferencias de género en problemas con el alcohol, según el nivel de consumo

Resumen


Este estudio evaluó las diferencias en la Intoxicación, Abuso y Dependencia del alcohol, entre hombres y mujeres, en una muestra de 910 estudiantes universitarios. Los datos se recolectaron con el Cuestionario para Evaluar el Nivel de Problemas Asociados al Consumo del Alcohol (CEAL). Se utilizó un diseño de casos y controles; los datos de analizaron mediante la transformación logarítmica de los Riesgos Relativos mujer / hombre. Los resultados mostraron que (1) los hombres tienen mayor riesgo de intoxicación, de abuso y de dependencia alcohólica, principalmente bajo el consumo ocasional, ligero y frecuente; (2) las mujeres presentan mayor riesgo de manifestar estos mismos problemas bajo el consumo severo; (3) estos problemas se incrementan progresivamente en relación directa con el nivel de consumo, en ambos géneros; (4) las mujeres presentan mayor riesgo de signos fisiológicos de intoxicación y los hombres mayor riesgo de pérdida del autocontrol. Estas diferencias fueron significativas con un a £ .05. Estos resultados permiten comprender mejor las acciones del etanol sobre el organismo humano, especialmente sobre su sistema nervioso central, y sus efectos en los 2 géneros.
