Abstract

Population-level estimates of alcohol-attributable mortality are challenging and face well-known assumptions which are highly determining the magnitude of the estimates. In this editorial, I highlight the main limitations of current (attributable-fraction) approaches to estimate alcohol-attributable mortality. Simultaneously, I suggest researchers considering the use of multiple causes of death, which would partly overcome some of the common limitations and biases in most of the current estimates.
