Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the opinion of users of the Drug Addition Centre in Mérida (Spain) on the service offered to them. Methods: Descriptive study. Period of study: September, October and first fortnight of November 2001. The information on user satisfaction was obtained through an ad hoc questionnaire assessing 6 items: accessibility, information on therapeutic process, hours of available care, waiting times, facilities and services, and overall assessment. The questionnaire was given to all the patients of the Centre who met the inclusion criteria. Results: The average overall assessment score was 4.88(±1.13), on a scale from 1 to 6. Establishing the average for overall assessment at 4, the proportion of satisfied users was 86.5%. The lowest score was in the item on facilities and services, facilities having the worst scoring. The most highly evaluated item was accessibility. Conclusions: User opinion on care is, in general, very positive. It could improve with minor changes in the work of the professionals (information for patients on treatment options and support with drugs) and with large structural changes (human resources management, longer opening hours and better facilities).
